Every year since I was a toddler me and my brother would receive a book on our Gotcha Day, usually about Russia or about adoption. In 2023 I decided to create an illustrated book about my adoption story, as a Christmas present to my family.
The process was exhilarating from start to finish, I chose a minimalistic illustration style as to not overcomplicate the storyline.
I wanted the focus to be on the big picture, illustrating the special memories of my adoption story.
The sketchy, washy, texture came after I began illustrating. I liked the way it kind of looked like crayon a little, and thought that brought out a childhood whimsy.
